It's unfortunate that so many people are underappreciated when doing their jobs. You can honestly give it your all and nobody will notice. Worse than that, sometimes they notice and actively undermine you and secretly plan your downfall. Some people are bitter and love chaos. Reddit is full of stories from people that go through things like that every day, and the subreddit 'MaliciousCompliance' is probably one of the most popular platforms to share such stories on. One user by the name of intrepidshe took to Reddit to share her own tale.
The story dates back to when she was finishing her own bachelor's degree - she was just getting started in a specific emerging field of technology and was hired for a brand new department that hadn't yet begun to take off. The other departments were for some reason, opposed to the service that she would provide - so much so, that the leaders of the other departments conspired against her, and did everything in their power not to give her an office. It worked, and she didn't have any normal place to work. She could have loudly exposed them, but decided against it - instead she realized that she could get exactly what she wanted and make them look dumb in the process - without ever saying a word. So she did her job wherever she could find a place to do so, such as the mail room. Her plan was that people would notice and eventually confront her about it… She wasn't wrong. One day, the President came through the mail room, stopped for a second, and asked her why she wasn't working in her own office - she was clearly annoyed. Our dear smart Redditor explained sweetly that she didn't have an office, and boy did that set the President off… She asked her a few questions, and after some very unsatisfactory answers, she stomped off to deal with the problem - and boy, did she deal with the problem. It was an absolute success.
